The Melfort & District Museum is owned by the City of Melfort and supported by the Rural Municipalities of Flett Springs, Star City and Willow Creek. We operate through at 12 person volunteer Board with two half-time staff, augmented by several students in the summer months. Our displays of 30,000+ items are distributed through 20+ buildings (some original to our community, others built for the museum). Recent initiatives include a large display of archeological and Aboriginal artifacts and art, which we hope to open in June, and a newly acquired 1912 CPR caboose which we hope to use as the hub of our railroad storytelling. We offer guided tours to individuals and groups, open house during Melfort Exhibition, special events, school tours, a summer children's program, historical research services, and various special events. We welcome originals or copies of photos, maps and documents relating to life in this area, and also stories (written and verbal). We will accept donations of artifacts as space permits. We are always looking for volunteers to assist us in a wide variety of ways. Please contact us fur further information. Though our Village is closed during the winter months, our Power House displays, archives and research services are open year round.
As one of the largest museums in North East Saskatchewan, the MDM strives to be at the heart of our community.
